Getting Started
Q:
How do I start using Marrowforums?
A:
If you want to read the main site pages, click Home at the top of this page or click one of the links in the left column.
If you want to browse or search the forums, click Forums at the top of this page.
Q:
Why do I have to register to post?
A:
Registration establishes your identity for the forums, letting you select a User Name by which others will know you (the name shown next to your posts), letting you select a password to control access to your member information, and allowing you (if you want) to fill in your User Profile and use the forum's Private Message system.
Q:
How do I register?
Q:
How do I log in and out?
A:
To login, enter your User Name and forum password at the top of the main forum page, any other forum page, or the Registration page.
If you check the Remember Me? checkbox when logging into Marrowforums, you will not be required to log in each time you visit. This feature works only when cookies are enabled in your web browser and should be used only on a computer used exclusively by you, not on a public or shared computer.
If you are using a public or shared computer, you should log out between visits. To log out, click Log Out at the top of any forum page.
Q:
Do I have to use cookies to use Marrowforums?
A:
No. Cookies are used to provide conveniences, such as showing whether or not a thread has new posts since your last visit, or to automatically log you back in when you return to the site, but you can choose not to use cookies at all, and you can clear the cookies from your browser at any time.
Since cookies for Marrowforums are used only to give you these conveniences, and not to gather personal information about you, we suggest that you leave them enabled.
We also suggest that you read our Privacy Policy to learn how you can and should protect your privacy when using a forum system like Marrowforums.
Q:
Will you send me email? How do I get off the mailing list?
A:
Marrowforums does not use a mailing list. We will not send you email unless you contact us and require a response, or if the administators need to contact you because of a problem with your registration or membership. Mass-mailed (bulk) email is never sent to members.
If you choose to enable the Notification option in your User Options, you can have the forum software email you when there are new posts in threads you have subscribed to. See What are thread subscriptions?
If you set your User Options to allow it, other members can send you email.
Q:
How is my privacy protected?
A:
The amount of privacy you want is up to you. Protecting it is a partnership. Marrowforums does its part by following strict guidelines about privacy and the proper use of your email address. You must do your part as well, by deciding how much personal information to reveal in the interest of participating in forum discussions, and by deciding if and when you want to communicate directly with other forum members.
Full details are provided in our Privacy Policy and we encourage you to review them.
Q:
Can I change my forum name?
A:
The forum software does not allow you to change your forum User Name (the name other people see next to your posts, and the name shown in your User Profile), but the administrators can change it for you. If you want to change your User Name, send a Private Message to the administrators, ask that your User Name be changed, and tell them the name you prefer to have.
If your User Name changes, your new name will be shown next to all of your previous posts as well as your future posts. If you have been a member for long and you change to a name that is quite different than the previous one, it could confuse other members, but that choice is up to you.
Q:
Why do I have to register to read the AA-MDS-TALK Archive?
A:
To preserve the privacy policy that applied to the AA-MDS-TALK listserv. Although anyone could join the AA-MDS-TALK listserv, only members who did so could read and search the messages and send their own messages to the listserv. Those who did not sign up could not read the listserv, and the general public could not search the listserv using search engines such as Google.
In the same way, anyone who joins Marrowforums can read and search the AA-MDS-TALK Archive. Those who do not register cannot read the Archive, and the general public cannot search the Archive using search engines.
